Comprehensive Autism Evaluations

Our licensed clinicians, with expertise in autism, will perform a comprehensive evaluation. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) impact multiple areas of function that demand a multidisciplinary approach to detection and diagnosis. Clinicians at WMPS are able to identify, assess, and diagnose symptoms of ASD from childhood through adulthood using a comprehensive developmental approach. Each evaluation focuses on standards of best practice in the field. By using profiles of strengths and vulnerabilities, our clinicians create individualized treatment & intervention strategies to improve daily functioning.

After testing, our clinicians will provide a detailed report outlining the results and whether further diagnostic testing is recommended. Autism evaluations provide individuals and loved ones with clarity and greater insight into cognitive function and behavior patterns. After the evaluation, we highlight specific areas of support that can benefit the individual with education and social success. At WMPS, we empower individuals with ongoing support and community resources. Our goal is to foster growth by helping people gain a deeper understanding of their unique strengths and needs.

Symptoms of Autism

Autism can present itself in many areas of life to varying degrees. Each individual can have a unique presentation of symptoms often associated with communication, repetitive behaviors, and sensory sensitivities.

  • Difficulty maintaining eye contact
  • Struggles with nonverbal social cues, such as recognizing tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language
  • Difficulty expressing and identifying emotions
  • Repeats phrases or engages in repetitive movements like hand-flapping or rocking
  • Uses an unusual tone when speaking
  • Sensitive to light, textures, and sound
  • Has intense, fixated interests
  • Struggles to start or maintain a conversation
  • Does not engage in “make-believe” play
  • Experiences delayed fine or gross motor skills
  • Strong preference for sameness and routine

Many additional symptoms can occur as well. Autism can be diagnosed at any age. Signs of ASD typically present themselves within the first year of life and become more prevalent by age two. Undiagnosed ASD can lead to unique challenges for individuals and their loved ones. Getting a diagnosis can bring peace of mind and equip the individual and loved one with strategies and support to foster success.
