Louis Churchwell

Louis is a Norton Shores clinician and is a very active member of our community in Muskegon. He has been married to his wife, Pharquiette, for the past 29 years, and together, they raised 3 biological & 3 foster children. He attended Grand Canyon University & holds two master’s degrees, one in Professional Counseling and the other in Substance Abuse. All of whom attended Muskegon Public Schools, where Louis now sits as a Vice President on the Board of Education. Louis is a Minister with Christ Temple Apostolic Church in Muskegon Heights. Louis is also a current member of the local NAACP. His community participation extends as a board member of both 103.7 The Beat and the Community Corrections Advisory board (former president). He has worked to establish programs in the Muskegon area, including the Transitional Living Center & Initiating the Muskegon Homeless Continuum of Care in 1993. He has previously served as the CEO of West Michigan Therapy for 25 years and is a former Clinician & Group Coordinator for Health West.

Louis is the recipient of Notable Awards, including the Paul Harris Fellow Award presented by the International Rotary Foundation; The Citizen of the Year Award (2009) presented by the Psi Phi Fraternity- Theta Mu Chapter of Omega; The National Liberty Bell Award (2010) presented by the Muskegon Bar Association; The Outstanding Leadership Award presented by the African American Institute for Racial Harmony and Social Justice; he is also a two-time recipient of the Love & Action Award presented by Muskegon Community College.
