Marissa has significant experience in a variety of areas of the mental health field, including community and home-based work and 5+ years of experience working in schools around West Michigan. Most recently, Marissa worked as a school-based mental health therapist for a community mental health agency in the Grand Rapids area before joining the WMPS team.
Marissa loves working with children and adolescents and primarily uses trauma-informed treatment modalities, CBT, and play-based interventions to help her clients explore and better understand their inner world in order to promote positive social/emotional skills, develop healthy coping mechanisms, build strong and healthy relationships and communication patterns with peers and adults, manage daily stressors, and process and heal from past and present traumatic experiences. Marissa believes in client-led work and takes an integrative and collaborative approach to counseling that incorporates the parent/guardian and school staff whenever possible to lead to more holistic and lasting change for her clients.
Marissa resides in Ottawa County with her husband, dog, and cat, and enjoys creating art, fostering dogs for a local rescue, reading, and traveling in her spare time.
